In the world filled with digital cameras, Canon refuse to be pushed out of the picture. In fact, it is one of the most popular, highly respected and ubiquitous digital camera brand names.
In 2007, more than 25 million Canon digital cameras were sold worldwide. Such impressive sales ensured that Canon topped in the sector with the largest market share.
Its had to imagine a time when Canon was not a major player in the market, but in fact they first started manufacturing in Japan a little more than sixty years ago, entering the market in other countries sometime thereafter. The first Canon compact digital camera however, was introduced in 1986 and was the less than snappily-named 'RC 701'. With the blossoming of the digital camera market, Canon have released a constant stream of digicam models, each having slightly different sets of features, but all being amongst the market leaders.. Such line included varied PowerShot models, Sureshot and Ixus models, suited and designed for beginner and those needing a high quality compact camera.
Then again, Canon have not been ignoring the professional photographer, those who typically need more features than compact digital cameras can offer. The single-lens reflex camera for advanced pros actually came into the scene almost three decades before its compact brother was born. The advanced featured of SLR cameras made them highly desirable to experienced amateurs and skilled professionals in photography, being particularly popular with the press.
Today, both compact and SLR models are available for amateurs and professionals alike. Consumer models have prices ranging from $100 to $500 depending on the features. Canon Digital SLR cameras may be available at low price range of $600 to $1,000, with the Canon Rebel model being particularly popular for those on a tight budget. Their premium digital SLR models may cost well above $2,500 – the likes of Mark II and Mark III models - and hold their value well on the secondhand digital camera market.
